Mark Anthony Carty, 56, died at his home after an extended illness on Sunday, September 18, surrounded by his family.
Mark was a life-long resident of Kingsport and a 1973 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School. He was employed from 1977 to 1988 at Eastman Chemical Company. Mark was an avid lover of nature and wildlife.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Eleanor Carty; grandparents, George and Grace Arnold and Bessie Carty.
He is survived by his daughters, Maegan Carty and Sarah Carty; granddaughter, Baleigh Vernon; sister, Mary Ann Carty; brothers and sisters-in-law, George Carty Beth, Charles Carty Susan, all of Kingsport. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Allison Carty and Devon Carty of Knoxville, Thomas Carty of Chattanooga, and Dillon Carty of Normal, IL; aunt, Lena Grace Lane; close friend, Bob Wells; several cousins; and faithful dog, Gus.
The family will receive friends on Monday, September 19, from 5-7 p.m. at Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church with funeral services following at 7 p.m. with Rev. David Hambrick and Jeff Morelock officiating.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be George Carty, Charles Carty, Bob Wells, Brandon Vernon, Kris Hays and David Dooley. Honorary Pallbearers will be Cheryl Gaines and Tony Erwin.
