Marlies Conkin, 78, of Kingsport, entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Marlies moved to the U.S. from Germany in 1959. She was a dedicated member of Calvary Church where she served in many capacities and had a career in bookkeeping. Marlies was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to many.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rome K. Conkin and her parents, Johannes and Helene Schroeder.

Marlies is survived by her sons, Johnny Conkin and wife, Claudia of Friendswood, TX, Kent Conkin of Knoxville, TN, Terry Conkin of Kingsport, TN and Allen Conkin and wife, Angela of Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Jennifer Conkin, Megan Conkin, Tabatha Hall and husband, Shannon and Samantha Tipton; great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Hall; one sister in Germany, Ingrid Lauser, of Karlsrugh, Germany; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 13th, from 6-8:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport and anytime at the home of the son, Allen Conkin. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 pm with Pastor Richard Hilton and Pastor Ron Lee officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, April 14th at 11:00 am at Mullins Family Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to meet at 10:00 am at Hamlett-Dobson to go in procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Randy Jennings, Robert Jennings, Shannon Hall, Jack Conkin, Johnny Conkin, Kent Conkin, Terry Conkin and Allen Conkin. Honorary Pallbearer is Mark Rodefer.
