Martha Woodfin Fine

Martha Woodfin Fine, 88, Kingsport, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2011.

She was born July 31, 1922 to the late Roy and Maggie Woodfin in South Pittsburg, TN. Martha graduated from South Pittsburg High School and attended Carson Newman College. She married Darrell Fine October 5, 1944.

Martha was the first teacher in Mather's Cooperative, an experimental program for pre-school children at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church and directed the first kindergarten at Colonial Heights Baptist church. She worked in interior decorating before going into real estate in 1986.

Martha was awarded the Times News Community Service Award in 1976 for her community service.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Otis Warren Woodfin and Bobby Woodfin; sister, Chase Carter; and her husband, Darrell Fine in 2008.

Surviving are her son, Steve Fine and wife, Cheryl; daughter, Libba Chandler and husband, Dr. Glenn Chandler; grandchildren, Stephanie and Shane Townsend, Alex and Kim Fine, Angela and Seth Rubley, Drew and Rachel Chandler, Erin and Andy Cook; great-granddaughters, Jordyn and Ashlyn Townsend; great-grandsons, Troy Rubley, and Colt Fine; brother, O. K. Woodfin; sister-in-law, Barbara Woodfin; special nieces, Margaret Neil Adams, Kathy Whittington, Kitty Lipton, Amelia Fore; and special nephews, Robby, Chris, Kenna, and Dale Woodfin.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Glenn Chandler, Drew Chandler, Andy Cook, Seth Rubley, Alex Fine, and Shane Townsend. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Booker, Mel Brent, Charles Chandler, Gene Crawford, John Douglas, Dick Lorah, Carl Ramsey, and Andre Wallen.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Colonial Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Greg Burton and Rev. Bob McNew officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Colonial Heights Baptist Church, 108 Colonial Heights Road, Kingsport, TN 37663.
