Martha “Kay” McBee, 64, of Kingsport, TN went home to be with her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, on Friday, March 8, 2024 following a chronic illness and an acute illness. She was born on July 13, 1959, in Kingsport, to the late John L McBee and Inez Goodman McBee.
Kay graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport in 1977 and attended ETSU in Johnson City for 2 years of pre-pharmacy before getting her BS in Pharmacy from The University of Georgia College of Pharmacy in Athens, GA in 1982. She enrolled briefly in The University of Kentucky non-traditional Pharm. D. program in 1995 before transferring to The University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in Memphis to complete her Pharm. D. degree in 1997 on campus. Kay was licensed in and practiced Pharmacy in Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina and mostly in Tennessee in the retail setting. Her last job before retiring was at the mail order pharmacy at the Veterans Administration in Murfreesboro. She was active in APhA and TPA pharmacy organizations.
Kay was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Kingsport earlier in life. She is currently a member of First Presbyterian Church in Kingsport. Kay had a kidney transplant for 40 years but always enjoyed travel, shopping, eating out, and going to Dollywood. She also enjoyed having people visit her and enjoyed being at her home.
Kay was preceded in death by her father, John L McBee.
Survivors include her mother, Inez McBee; and her brother, John David McBee, both of Kingsport.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Comfort Keepers of Kingsport, and her special caregivers, Teresa, Holly, and April for their care and friendship. Thanks also to Amedysis Home Health for their long-term physical therapy and occupational therapy services.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Jarnagin Cemetery in Morristown with Dr. Mike Shelton and Rev. Ed Isley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First Presbyterian Church, 100 W Church Circle, Kingsport, TN 37660.
