Martha Meyer

Martha Meyer died on July 17, 2008, in Atlanta. Born in 1936 in Kingsport, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Cleo and Les Meyer. She was a loving daughter, sister and aunt, devoted to her family and friends. She was an active volunteer and generous supporter of numerous professional, cultural and civic organizations.

Following her graduation from Agnes Scott College, she rose through the ranks of the Georgia state government and served during the terms of four governors. Prior to her retirement she coordinated and headed the state's Consolidated Human Resources project and was personnel director for more than 20, 000 employees.

From an early age, Martha had a great passion for the game of golf. She loved the practice, play, competition and fellowship of the sport. For many years she was active in the Georgia, National and NCAA Women's Golf Associations, both as a player and official. She served as co-chairman of the 2005 US Women's Amateur Championship in Atlanta. She was a director at Ansley Golf Club in Atlanta and won the women's club championship there nineteen times.

She is survived by her brothers, Robert Bob Meyer of Nashville and Jim Meyer of Charlotte, as well as her nephews and nieces, Will, Molly, Michael and Sayre, and five grand-nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at First Broad Street United Methodist Church in Kingsport at 12:00 PM on July 25, 2008 with Dr. J. Spurgeon McCartt officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the Memorial service at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice Atlanta, either of the churches above or a charity of the donor's choice.
