Marvin Ray Bowen, 66, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family on Friday, April 24, 2009 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

He was born June 26, 1942 to parents Andrew and Rosella Bowen. Marvin spent his entire life in Kingsport and retired from AFG Glass Plant in 1998 after 33 years of service. He was a very loving, kind, thoughtful and caring son, brother, dad, and papaw.

Marvin was a member of State Line Baptist Church and attended Orebank Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father Andrew Bowen; a sister Judy Wynegar; and a nephew Scott Ketron.

In addition to his mother Rosella Bowen, he is survived by daughter and son-in-law Dianna and Emory Sells of Kingsport, daughter Donna McCraney of Carrierre, Mississippi; one son and daughter-in-law Tony and Karen Bowen of Church Hill; sister and good brother-in-law Lois and Paul Darnell; brother Donnie Bowen, grandchildren Crystal VanHuss and husband Richard, William Sells and wife Jana, Jenna Cochran, Jarrett Cochran, Kayleb McCraney, and Trey Bowen; five precious great grandchildren; special friend and companion Faye Overbay; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marvin never met a stranger and was a friend to many.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 26 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport and friends may call on the family anytime at the residence of his daughter Dianna and Emory Sells, 164 Pepper Tree Drive, Kingsport.

Funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m. Sunday in the chapel with Rev. Ralph Buddy Dingus, Pastor Mike Stout, and Pastor David Foster officiating.

Graveside services will be held Monday, April 27 at 1:00 p.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 12:00 to join the procession.

Pallbearers will be nephews Greg Darnell, Steve Ketron, Carlos Ray Burton, and Mike Burton, Uncle Danny Dingus, and friend Phil Kiser. Honorary pallbearers will be his great nephews.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the nurses and staff of the CICU at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
