Marvin H. Garrett, 70, Blountville, TN, died at 1:10 a.m., Thursday, May 5, following an extended illness.
Marvin was born in Russell County, VA, and had resided in Kingsport most of his life. He was retired from Snyder Sign Company. He was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Garrett and Evelyn H. Garrett Perry; step-father, Charles A. Perry; two sisters, Katherine Shoemaker, Teresa Carden, and brother Jack Perry.
Survivors include two sons, Marvin Garrett, Jr. and Jessica, Gray, TN, Mark Garrett and Linda, Kingsport, TN; three daughters, Elizabeth Perry and husband Butch, Charlene Towler, Lisa Depew and husband George, all of Kingsport; eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; five brothers, O Neil Garrett and wife Martha of VA, Tom Perry, Greene County, TN, Clyde Perry and wife Lynn, Greene County, TN, Rickie Perry and wife Betty, IL, and David Perry, IL; one sister, Mary Ramey and husband Carl, Greene County, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 8, 2011, at Hamlett- Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, TN, with the funeral service following at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Scottie Sexton officiating.
Graveside services will be held at Oak Hill Memorial Park on Monday at 11:00 a.m.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
