Marvin Keys Goodman, 84, of Kingsport, TN, passed away on July 24, 2013 at Holston Manor Nursing Home. Born in Chattanooga, TN on April 22, 1929, he moved to Emory, VA with his family, and later to Kingsport where he resided the remainder of his life. A graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School, Marvin served as President of the Student Council, Editor of the yearbook and Valedictorian of his senior class.

Upon graduation he attended Emory and Henry College, East Tennessee State University, and the University of Tennessee. Between his sophomore and junior years his Army Reserve Unit was called into action during the Korean Crisis and he served his commitment at Watertown, NY. After fulfilling his service, he went to Knoxville, TN and completed his degree with honors in Industrial Engineering where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He accepted a position with Tennessee Eastman Chemical Company where he was employed for over twelve years.

He resigned from Eastman and because of his passion for higher education he coordinated the development of the University of Tennessee Center at Kingsport from which he retired.

During his young adult life he was a member of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and Boy Scout leader. Marvin was also instrumental in coordinating and directing one of the area's first outdoor living nativity dramas at the church. As an active member of the Kingsport Jaycees and Kiwanis Club, he served on numerous boards and committees.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Marie Goodman, and his first wife, Margaret McBrayer Goodman.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Angela Banks Goodman of the home; two children, Mary Goodman Scott of Kingsport and Dr. William Goodman and wife, Suzanne of Nashville, TN; four step-children, Tom Banks and wife, Beth of Nashville, TN, Burt Banks and wife, Kari of Charlotte, NC, Lee Banks and wife, Patti of Cincinnati, OH and Carrie Banks Brown and husband, Brent of Greenville, SC; four grandchildren, Tara d'Alvigny Scott of Kingsport, Andrew Lee Scott of Kingsport, William Andrew Goodman of Nashville, TN, and Matthew Towne Goodman of Nashville, TN; two great-grandchildren, Zachary Lee Scott of Knoxville, TN and Parker Jackson Scott of Kingsport; and eleven step-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church, Kingsport on Sunday, July 28, 2013, from 2-3:00 pm. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm with Dr. Marvin Cameron and Dr. Ron Davis officiating.
