Marvin L. Lackey, Jr., 73, of Kingsport, died Saturday morning, October 24, 2009, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.
He was born October 10, 1936, in Lubbock, TX, the son of Leavern and Virginia Conley Lackey. Marvin spent his boyhood in Memphis, TN, where he graduated high school. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1956, and retired after 26 years of service in the U.S. Navy Reserve with the rank of Captain. He retired from Eastman Chemical Company. Mr. Lackey was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Kingsport. In retirement, Marvin resided at the Hound Ears Club in Blowing Rock, NC, during the summer. He was a member of the Cosmopolitan Kiwanis Club of Kingsport.
Marvin is survived by his wife, K. Marti Lackey, of Kingsport; son, William Lackey, of Collierville, TN; daughter, Virginia Lackey Stanley, Newnan, GA; and grandsons Haydon Stanley and Jack Stanley, both of Newnan, GA.
An inurnment service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Banner Elk Presbyterian Church, 420 College Drive, Banner Elk, NC.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday October 30, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church, Kingsport, with the Rev. Dr. David A. Cagle officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
