Mary Etta Bevins, 89, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 17, 2008, at Indian Path Medical Center. She was born in Rye Cove, Virginia, on August 15, 1918. She graduated from Rye Cove Memorial High School. She married Huey Lee Bevins on September 16, 1939, and moved to Kingsport in 1940. They were married for 41 years before his death. She was a charter member of Lynn Garden Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, Clara E. Hill and A. C. Flanary; her step-father, Ben Carter; two sisters, Nannie Culbertson Warner, and Georgia Taylor Milo; and one son-in-law, Virgil R. Smith.
Surviving is one daughter, Clara Patricia Simpson, and husband Wayne, Kingsport; one half-brother, James Frank Carter, and wife Joelene, Rye Cove, VA; three grandchildren, Karen Harris, and husband Ken, Jonesborough, TN, Robin Falin, and husband Jeff, North Augusta, SC, and Traci Hale, and husband Nelson, Carmel, IN; five great-grandchildren, Justin Harris, and wife Lindsey, Brittany Goddard, and husband Billy, Michele Falin, Melinda Falin, and Dominic Hale; one great-great grandson, Brayden Goddard; one step-granddaughter, Wendy Stanley, and husband Terry; two step-great-grandchildren, Emily Stanley and Andrew Stanley; three nieces, Louise Marriner, Joyce Rogers, Gaynell Bradley, Linda Lee; three nephews, Russell Taylor, Larry Carter, and Tim Carter.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, or anytime at the home of her daughter, Pat Simpson.
Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Dr. Martin L. Stokes and Rev. Richard Willis officiating.
Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Ken Harris, Justin Harris, Jeff Falin, Nelson Hale, Billy Goddard, Ted Steffey, and Mike Bellamy.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 1116 Nelms Lane, Kingsport, TN 37665, or the charity of one's choice.
