She loved her God, her country, family, neighbors, community and (almost) "All creatures great and small."
Mary Anderson Chambers, a Colonial Heights resident since 1961, died Friday, November 8, 2013, at Ashton Place, McLeansville, NC. A native of Greensboro, NC, she was the fourth of nine children born to Edgar Harold Anderson and Jamie Dunn Robinson Anderson.
She was a graduate of Woman's College of the University of North Carolina and received her Dietetic Internship at Duke University Hospital, under Elsie W. Martin.
In 1948, Mary earned a M.A. degree in Nutrition from Teacher's College, Columbia University and, while there, was awarded membership in Kappa Delta Pi, national honorary education fraternity.
During World War II she served overseas as a Medical Department Dietitian, AUS. From 1959 to 1966, she was employed as Dietitian at Tennessee Eastman Company, and met her husband, Henry Clay Chambers, while working there.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters, Elizabeth Barnes, Blanche McCleary, Carolina Tarbet; brothers, Edgar Harold Anderson, Jr., William J. Anderson and Samuel R. Anderson.
Graveside services will be held at East Lawn Memorial Park at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2013, with Military Rites accorded by VFW Boone Dam #4933.
