In God's perfect timing, Mary Louise Hauk Denton, 98, whose life was dedicated to our Lord Jesus Christ, her family and friends, died on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. She was born September 7, 1917 in Sullivan County, TN to the late John A. and Barbara Barnes Hauk. She remained a proud citizen of Sullivan County her entire life.
Mary was a graduate of Blountville High School and was a Deputy County Court Clerk of Sullivan County for 35 years. She was a member of Gardner's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church and was a faithful member of Miller's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church at the time of her death.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, John Hugh Denton, Sr., her son, John Hugh Denton, Jr. of Knoxville, TN; great-grandson, Parker O'Connell of Plano, TX; her parents; and 6 siblings, Katheryn H. Holt, Bernice H. Lemons, Edith H. McConnell, Paul Hauk, J.W. Hauk, Nev Andrew "Preach" Hauk and H.B. Hauk.
Mary is survived by 2 daughters, Nancy Denton Evans of Limestone, TN, and Barbara Virginia Denton Dickenson of Lebanon, VA; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Faye Gaines Hauk of Kingsport; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 1:00 pm in East Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Paul Strong officiating. Pallbearers will be friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000 Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mary's faithful caregivers at her home, the nursing staff of 5th floor and 3rd floor Wilcox Hall of Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center and Wellmont Hospice. Their exemplary care and kindness have made a difficult time much easier.
