Mary Lou Pierce Edgell, 89, of Colonial Heights, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2010, at Preston Place.

Mary Lou was born in Kingsport and had lived in the area her entire life. During World War II she worked at Eastman and Holston Ordinance. She retired from Sullivan County, where she served as a social worker. She was a charter member of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church, and was a member of Johnson Memorial Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nannie Kate Slaughter Pierce and John E. Pierce, and her brother, John Mack Pierce.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Vernon Edgell, of the home; daughter, Gloria Stanford and husband, Ed, of Kingsport; son, David Edgell and wife, Patsy, Kingsport; and five grandchildren, John Edgell, Kingsport, Susan Stanford, Missoula, Montana, Sarah Edgell Hardinger, Tallassee, Alabam, Julia Stanford Wallace, Princeton, New Jersey, and Nancy Kate "Katie" Stanford, Knoxville.

Family graveside services will be conducted at Lebanon Cemetery in Colonial Heights on Monday at 3:30. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Mr. Tom Phillips officiating.

Memorial contributions in Mary Lou's honor may be made to the Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church Organ Fund, 213 Colonial Heights Road, Kingsport, TN 37663.
