Mary Emma Quillen, 78, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord early Thursday morning on January 30, 2025. Born in the Long Island community she later married the love of her life and moved to Bloomingdale where she raised her family. In her younger years, she was an active member of Hermon United Methodist Church. Emma was a great cook and enjoyed trying new recipes. She also enjoyed gardening and canning vegetables. Emma loved watching sports on TV and would often check the newspaper for game times so she would never miss a start. Mary Emma was a devoted caregiver to many family members, seeing to their needs until their passing.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Dykes and Thelma Dennis; stepfather, Henry Dennis; siblings, Linda Dykes, Bobby Dykes and John Dykes.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Gary Quillen; children, Tammy Moore (Doyle), Lisa Herron (Chuck) and Greg Quillen (Missy); grandchildren, Nick (Hannah), Callie, Stephanie (Stephen), Haley (Reece), Bryant, Mary, Katelyn (Michael), Ethan (Caleigh), Cheyenne (Peyton); great-grandchildren, Tinsley, Everett, Levi, Rex, and Wilder; siblings, Jim Dykes, Tony Dykes (Gail), Howard Dykes, Gary Dykes (Melody); and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to extend their special thanks to Indian Path 5th Floor Nursing Staff for their excellent care of Emma and her family.
The family will receive friends Sunday, February 2, 2025 from 2:00-3:00pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ray Amos officiating.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, February 3, 2025 at 11:00am at Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Shriners Children’s Hospital Greenville, 950 W. Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.
