Mary Lee Horton

Mary Duncan Horton, 83, of the Sullivan Gardens Community, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at Indian path Medical Center. Born May 3, 1926, Mrs. Horton was a lifelong resident of this area. She graduated from Sullivan High School in 1944. Mrs. Horton worked at Eastman for 18 years. She was an avid bowler her entire life. She traveled the country participating in numerous state and national bowling tournaments, and she served countless hours in the Senior Citizen Athletic Club. Mrs. Horton was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, daughter, and friend to many people. She will be greatly missed by all.

Mrs. Horton was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas J. Duncan and Mary Childress Duncan; her twin sister, Marie; and five brothers, Thomas, Fred, Jim, Clarence, and T.J.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Tives Horton; two wonderful sons, Harold and his wife Heidi of Jacksonville, FL, and Hayden Horton and his wife Brooke of Knoxville; two beloved grandchildren, Hayden Parker and Avery, who loved and adored their Mimi; and several nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service, officiated by Pastor Wayne Baker, will be held by the family at Gunnings Cemetery.

A special thanks goes out to the Senior Citizen Athletic Club, Joy Seniors Bowling, and Mrs. Horton s close friends. The family would also like to extend heart-felt thanks to Karen England and Heather Burgess along with the entire ICU staff at Indian Path Medical Center.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Mrs. Horton s memory to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee; 127 Dillon Court; Gray, TN 37615.
