Mary Elsie Hudson passed into eternal rest at her home of 78 years while her granddaughter Selina held her hand at 2AM Sunday, July 6, 2014. Elsie was 100 years old. She was born in Scott County, Virginia, August 19th, 1913. She was the daughter of the late Dale and Josephine Calhoun Carter. She attended Community United Methodist Church prior to her declining health.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Kelly Hudson; twin sons Larry and Allen Hudson; daughter-in-law Jo Hudson; sons-in-law Herman Blevins and Larry Ellis; four sisters Bessie Lazenby, Maggie Humphries, Lula Ketron, and Effie Cross; brothers: Bill, Garland, Henry, and Bud Carter.

She is survived by her son Harold "Smiley" Hudson, Kingsport; daughters Ann Ellis, Doris LaForce and husband Pete, Kingsport, and Linda Blevins, Unicoi. Also surviving are grandchildren Selina Straley and husband Jim, Tulsa, OK, Lisa Boyd and husband Dale, Leslie Depew and husband Mike, Kingsport, Michael Ellis, Johnson City, Jason Hudson and wife Beth, Chicago, IL, Kelly Blevins and wife Shannon, Erwin; step-grandchildren Debbie Kennedy and husband Herbert "Junior", Carlos Hammonds and David Hammonds, Kingsport. Additional survivors include great-grandchildren Cortney, Brittany and David Depew, Tori, Kelton and Ashlyn Hudson; several step-grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister-in-law Gladys Roberts and daughter-in-law Carolyn Sandidge and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11 am-1 pm on Wednesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Services will follow at 1 pm with Rev. Charles Kilbourne officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers are Bobby Carter, Mike Ellis, David Hammonds, Jim Straley, Mike Depew and Ben Hunter. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Hudson, Kelly Blevins, and Dale Boyd.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to her granddaughter Selina Straley for being her caregiver for the last 10 months of her life. A special thank you is also extended to Kristie Runion and the nurses and staff of Smokey Mountain Home Health and Hospice.
