Mary (Marti) L. Hughes

Mary (Marti) L. Hughes passed from this life to join her loved ones that have gone before her on Friday, April 11, 2014. Marti was born in Greene County, TN and had resided in Kingsport since the mid 1970's. After her high school graduation she moved to Washington, DC and went to work for the F.B.I. under J. Edgar Hoover. Marti moved to Kingsport and married Dr. Bobby Hughes and raised her two sons in Kingsport. She went to work for New York Life in Knoxville, TN and later moved back to Kingsport and worked for the Kingsport Shoe Store. Loving the insurance business, she joined American General Life Insurance Company from where she retired in 1988. Marti spent her retirement years in leisure, enjoying her canine companion, Todo. Mrs. Hughes was once a member of Victory Baptist Church

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Icy Inman; sons, Alan W. Hughes and David Lee Hughes; and brother, Clarence Inman.

Marti leaves behind her granddaughter, Christy Skerrett and husband, Mark; great-granddaughter, Brook Skerrett; brother, Hunley (Sonny) Inman and wife, Ann; a special sister and best friend, Gail Berry and husband, Dennis; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 1-2:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingport. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm with Pastor Jerry Musick officiating. Burial to follow in St. Paul Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Morristown, TN.
