Mary Jane Lee, of Kingsport, died Thursday evening, August 5, 2010, after a long and victorious battle with cancer. While suffering a brief setback, she was quickly rescued by her Savior Jesus Christ, who gently called her from this life to her eternal heavenly reward.
Mary Jane was born on October 1, 1934, in Kingsport, the daughter of Wallace and Nettie Kibler. A 1952 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School, she attended East Tennessee State College. She had a very active life, becoming proficient as an artist, interior decorator, writer of prose and poetry, golfer, singer, and Christian friend.
Preceding her in death were her father and mother; an infant brother, Stephen Ross Kibler; and a young son, Joseph Brian Lee.
Mary Jane is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bill Lee; daughters, Barbara Ann Hackett and husband, Jim, of Colonial Heights, and Jennifer Kay Shaffer, of Houston, TX; son, David Wallace Lee and wife, Rosemary, of Chattanooga; grandchildren, John Wesley Shaffer and Salem Elizabeth Shaffer, of Denver, CO, Abigail Lee Russell and husband, Richard, of Chattanooga, Gable Steven Hackett, Colonial Heights, and Joseph Brian Hackett, also of Colonial Heights; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Tom Weatherford; stepmother, Veneta Kibler; step-brothers, Sam Rasnake and Ronald Rasnake; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 7th, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Indian Springs Baptist Church. Services will follow at 7:00, with Dr. Roc Collins and Mike Morgan officiating.
Graveside services will be private. Serving as pallbearers will be David Lee, Jim Hackett, Gable Hackett, Joseph Hackett, Wesley Shaffer, and Richard Russell.
The family is very thankful for the loving concern and professional care given by Drs. Robert Funke and Paul Kramer, the tender attention given by the staff at Wilcox hall 3rd Floor, the superior treatment rendered by the Amedisys Hospice personnel: Eleanor, Brooke and Sheila and the dignified service by the staff-management of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home. May God bless all of them for their treatment of Mary Jane.
