Mary J. Light

Mary Light was quick with a smile and enjoyed life. She was married to Truman Light for more than forty-seven years and in addition to being her husband, he was her best friend who loved and served her well throughout their marriage together. Mary Light passed away on July 12, 2015.

She was born in, and was a resident of Kingsport. Mary was raised in Church Hill, and graduated from Church Hill High School. She retired from Kingsport Development Corporation, where she enjoyed many satisfying years of employment.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, C.L. and Myrtle Kate Marshall of Church Hill; sister, Alice Thompson; brother, Fred Marshall; half-sister, Sally Lou Henry; two half-brothers, Mack Marshall, and Bill Davis.

Mary is survived by two sons, Randy Wood of Kingsport, and Bill Wood and wife, Debby Hill Wood of Johns Creek, GA. She took great pride in her grandchildren and their spouses, grandsons, Hunter and Tanner Wood of Kingsport; granddaughter, MaryJo and her husband, Benjamin Howell and their two sons, Eli and Brooks Howell, of Atlanta. Also in Atlanta are two grandsons, Joseph and his wife Jennifer Wood and William Wood. Two half brothers and two half sisters survive her, Ralph Marshall of Mount Carmel, Everett Marshall and Inez Housewright of Church Hill, and Hazel Bingham, of Kingsport.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Chapman, Elmo Light, Hunter Wood, Tanner Wood, Joseph Wood, Benjamin Howell, William Wood, and Brian Light. Mary's brother, Ralph Marshall, will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Mary was raised in the Methodist faith tradition. She often engaged in significant spiritual conversations with her grandchildren and sons. Her sister Alice Thompson personally impacted her in her faith journey.

The family appreciates the thoughtful and attentive care provided to Mary by the staff of The Wexford House, in particular the women and men on the 200 hall.

The services for Mary will be held at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home in Kingsport. Friends will be received from 7 to 8 p.m. with the funeral following at 8 p.m. on Tuesday the 14th of July with The Rev. John Toney officiating. Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City with The Rev. Bill Wood officiating.
