Mary Paul Smith, age 87, died Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Asbury Place in Kingsport, TN.
She was born September 26, 1929 in Swainsboro, GA to Henry Irvin and Fannie Elizabeth Jeffers Smith. She received her bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Wesleyan College in Macon, GA. She continued her education at Northwestern University, Chicago, IL and taught at the Davison School of Speech in Atlanta, GA.
Mary Paul was married to Warren Young Smith. She served as Director of St. Paul's Day School in Kingsport for 20 years until she retired in 1990.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Betty Gambrell.
Mary Paul is survived by her husband, Warren Young Smith; children, Kathryn Lee (Smith) McIntyre (Ron McIntyre), Margaret Alison (Smith) Gibbs (Tom Gibbs), Matthew Warren Smith (Lydia Smith), Stewart Young Smith and Charles Douglas Sykes (Danielle Sykes); grandchildren, Christopher McIntyre, Steven McIntyre, Jackson Gibbs, James Gibbs, Warren Smith, Mary Frances Smith, Henry Smith, Sayge Smith, Jesse Smith, Charles Sykes and Rachael Sykes; great grandchild, Emma Hickson; sister, Sue Carol Atkinson (Beckley, WV); and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
