Mary Ann Short King, 90, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, December 27, 2024. Mary Ann was born September 14, 1934 in Kingsport, where she would remain a resident for the entirety of her life. She was employed by Eastman Chemical Company for many years until she retired. Mary Ann loved to travel when she was able to; she spent a season working in Yellowstone at one point. Her family was her pride and joy, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marlin G. and Rose Bear Short; husband, Kenneth King; son, Michael Gene Thomas; brothers, Robert and Floyd Short and sister, Ethel Cole.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Linda Thomas, and Lisa Parkes (Brian); son, David Gyles (Marjorie); grandchildren, Michael Heatherly, Amy Thomas Spears (Kenny), Holly Thomas (Brandon), Brian John Parkes, Abby and Katrina Gyles; great-grandchildren, Marley and Paisley Spears, Ariana Heatherly, Nolan Grubb, Wyatt Grubb and Jonah Fugate.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 10:30am-12:30pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A service will follow at 12:30pm with Pastor Ryan Shaffer officiating. The family and guests will follow in procession to East Lawn Memorial Park for a graveside service at 2:00pm.
