Mary Sue Simpson, 55, of Church Hill?s Healthcare & Rehabilitation, died Saturday evening December 9, 2006 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after an extended illness.
Born in Sullivan County, Mary Sue had resided in Mount Carmel all of her life. She was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church. She was a very loving and caring person who never met a stranger. Everyone that knew her loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, C. H. and Emma Sue Miller Purkey; and one sister, Janice Purkey.
Surviving are her son, George Simpson, Jr.; one brother, Robert E. Purkey, Church Hill; half-sister, Andrea Bondiepfi, New York; aunts, uncles, niece, nephews, Ernest and Patricia Vaughn, Kingsport, Clara Myers, Mount Carmel, and Bobby Purkey, Church Hill.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will be at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Andy Sensabaugh and Rev. Steven G. Gott officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Church Hill Memory Gardens. Those planning to attend are asked to meet at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport, at noon on Wednesday to go in procession.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
