Mary “Sister” Carlock Brewer - of Kingsport, TN passed away Wednesday, November 22nd peacefully at her home.
Sister was a Kingsport native and daughter of the late Bob and Doris Carlock. She was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and Tennessee Technological University. Early in her career she was an elementary school teacher in Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia. Later in her career she worked as trust officer and for several banks in the area in their trust departments. She was a communicant of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where she was a lifelong member.
She is survived by her husband of almost 30 years, L. Gordon Brewer Jr, daughter, Rebecca Brewer of Chattanooga, mother-in-law, Mary George Brewer of Cary, NC; sister and Brother -in-laws, Rosemary and Greg Rhodes of Apex, NC; Tim and Shannon Brewer of Mooresville, NC along with niece and nephew, Ethan and Kamryn; several cousins, and her two cats, Sophie and Sylvie, who she adored. Along with her long-term caregivers Ashley Davis and Sharon Gilbert, she is survived by a host of very dear friends and the community of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
Memorial Services with Holy Communion will be held 2pm Saturday, December 2nd at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with The Rt. Rev. Brian Cole, The Rev. Jay Mills and The Rev. Johnny Tuttle officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Point Camp and Retreat Center, 300 Chamberlain Cove Road, Kingston, TN 37763 or to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 161 E. Ravine Rd., Kingsport, TN 37660.
