Mary “Neta” Wells, 92, went to live with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, April 30, 2020. She was born June 22, 1927, in Hawkins County. Neta was a faithful member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where, for many years, she enjoyed teaching the Sunday school preschool class and helping with the church nursery. Affectionately called “Mema” by her family, Neta devoted most of her life to lovingly care for children. Her greatest joy was the years she spent caring for her grandchildren, where she was also a beloved presence in the lives of many of their childhood friends. Most recently, her years were filled with caring for and spending time with her precious great-grandchildren, who loved her so much. The works of her hands were selfless in serving and helping others. Her faithful prayers to Jesus, whom she knew so well, brought about many blessings and miracles into the lives of her family. The Bible says “A good woman is worth more than rubies and her family shall praise her,” Proverbs 31:10. Neta’s life gave her family many wonderful memories to cherish, but her greatest legacy was that she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with all her heart and taught her family to do the same.
Neta was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carson Taylor Wells; parents, Gale and Eura Brooks; and sister, Thelma Elkins (husband Reed).
Left to cherish her memory until we see her again, her beloved daughter, Linda Jones and son-in-law Sam of Kingsport; granddaughter, Kristen Osborne (husband Jeremy) of Kingsport; grandson, David Jones (wife Cara) of Knoxville; great-granddaughters, Karson Osborne and Caitlin Jones; great-grandsons, Noah Johnson, Brady Osborne, and Gavin Jones; nephew, Larry Elkins (wife Pam); many other cherished nieces and nephews; and special people in her life, Daniel Poston (wife Dena) and Joan Ingram.
Due to the state restrictions for Covid-19, a private graveside service will be held at Liberty Hill Cemetery with Pastor Todd Haley officiating.
Because of her love of children, donations can be made in memory at www.stjude.org.
