Mary Lee Widener, 101, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at Appalachian Christian Village Nursing Wing in Johnson City, TN.
A native of Hawkins County, Tennessee, she was born on August 25, 1907, to Samuel and Cornelia Lee. Most of her adult life was spent in Kingsport where she was the oldest living charter member of Mafair United Methodist Church. For many of those years, she was a Sunday School teacher. In 1989, at the age of 82, she received the Charlie Keener Good Citizenship Award, presented to her by the Kingsport Evening Civitan Club.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Curtis K. Widener; her parents; five brothers; and two sisters.
Surviving are three daughters, Nancy Hyder of Johnson City, Sue Egloff of Rockledge, Florida, and Anne Hughes and her husband Robert of Gainesville, Florida; one son, Jim Widener and his wife Judy of Johnson City; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters-in-law, Nell Lee and Louise Lee; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 22nd, at Mafair United Methodist Church from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The funeral will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of the church with the Reverend Dr. Ralph M. Kidd officiating.
Interment will be at Oak Hill Memorial Park following the funeral service. Pallbearers will be family members and friends.
