Mattie Frances Adams, 93, of Kingsport, died at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday July 22, 2009 at Wexford House. Born in Bedford, VA, Mattie Frances was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and Virginia Intermont College. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and served as a volunteer. A former owner of The Town Shop, she was also employed with J. Fred Johnson Department Store, Fuller and Hillman in Kingsport and Hillmans in Colonial Heights. She was also a member of the Junior League of Kingsport and the Cotillion Club.

Mattie Frances was preceded in death by her father, Edward Adams; her mother, Martha Adams Wilkerson; step-father, George Wilkerson; three brothers, Ed, Raymond, and C.H. "Harry" Adams; a sister, Alice Duncan; and step-brother, Homer Wilkerson.

She is survived by two nephews, Charles Henry Adams, Jr. and wife Sara and Rev. Charles E. Adams, both of Kingsport; and six nieces, Betty Willhauck of Greensboro, NC, Ann Willhauck of Pensacola, FL, Cherry Keifer of Ohio, Sarah Hill of Durham, NC, Mary Parsley of Richmond, VA, Anne Messmer of Washington, D.C.; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Friends will be received at St. Paul's Episcopal Church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2009. Funeral services will be conducted at the church at 11:00 a.m. with The Rev. Edward James Mills, III and The Rev. Marquita L. Hutchens officiating.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday July 28, 2009 at Bedford City Cemetery in Bedford, VA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church; 161 E. Ravine Road; Kingsport, TN 37660.
