Mattie Milburn

Mattie Alice Milburn, 98, of Mount Carmel, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at Wexford House.

Born in Limestone, TN, she had resided in Mt. Carmel most of her life and retired from J. C. Penney Company. Mattie Alice had a great love for children and helped rear many.

She was a lifelong member of Milburnton United Methodist Church in Milburnton Community of Greene County.

Preceding her in death were her parents, William R. and Bessie Armentrout Milburn; two sisters, Sue Milburn and Freddie M. Johnson; and one brother, Les Milburn.

Survivors include sister, June Hensley, Limestone; two brothers, Rev. Glen Milburn and wife, Inez, Elbert Milburn and wife, Iva Nell, all of Greene County; sister-in-law, Geneva Milburn, Limestone.

Mattie Alice came to live with her second family in 1927. She had planned to help with the new baby and stay only two to three months; instead Mattie Alice became a member of the family and was loved as a sister. She was very supportive of each member of the family. Mattie Alice was preceded in death by members of this family, aunt, Hazel Dell Milburn; uncle, Rev. James Earl Milburn, Sr.; ?sister?, Ruth Milburn Clark; ?brother?, James Earl Milburn, Jr.; ?sister-in-law?, Elsie Orr Milburn; ?brother?, John William Milburn; and ?brother-in-law?, Rev. Dr. Charles Everett Tilson.

Survivors of this family include ?sisters and brothers?, Mary Nola Tilson, Ohio; Dr. Joseph L. Milburn and wife, Laura, Chattanooga; The Honorable Judge H. T. ?Ted? Milburn and wife, Elaine, Chattanooga; Cathy Milburn, Tampa; Patricia K. Milburn, Chattanooga; and Dr. Warner L. Clark, Church Hill; special friends, Jerry and Patsy Tate; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Calling hours are from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Services will follow at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Charlie Dye officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Milburnton United Methodist Church Cemetery.
