Maude Murray Purcell, 94, of Harlan, Kentucky, died Friday, October 23, 2009 at Indian Path Medical Center.
She was a graduate of Dobyns Bennett High School Class of 1931 and a graduate of Whitney Business College. Mrs. Purcell was an employee of Holliston Mills for eight years and a former owner of Fuller's Furniture Store of Harlan, where she continued working until retirement.
Mrs. Purcell was a member of Harlan Baptist Church, the W.M.U, the Glory Singers, and the Christian Menders Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Harlan Women's Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garnie B. Purcell; son, G. B. Purcell, Jr.; parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Murray; and brother, Woodrow Murray.
Survivors include two sisters, Myrtle M. Russell of Kingsport and Ferne M. Erwin of Greenville, South Carolina; nieces, Carolyn R. Boggs and Deirdre Bowen; nephews, James R. Russell and William C. Erwin, Jr.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Kenneth Pugh of Harlan officiating.
