Mava "Joy" Gilliam, 67, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at her home following a lengthy illness. Joy was a member of Cedar Creek Missionary Baptist Church but attended regularly, Riners Tabernacle Baptist Church. She had retired from Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following 19 years of service. Joy loved to sing for her Lord and for several years traveled with the Kaywood family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Mary Hall; brother, Hansel Hall; sister, Freda Norris; and father and mother-in-law, Chester and Ruth Gilliam.
Joy is survived by her husband of 47 years, Wayne Gilliam; daughter, Ginger Gilliam; two sons, Clint Gilliam and wife, Sharon, and Tony Gilliam and wife, Melissa; five grandchildren, Tyler, Kassi, Mikaylah, Anthony and Courtney; sister, Monia Baker and husband, Roy; brother, Richard Hall and wife, Joyce; special niece, Shari Hillman; and several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 11, from 5-8:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 pm with Pastor Johnny Gibson and Rev. Lawrence E. Wolfe officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, October 12th at 11:00 am at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens in Blountville, TN. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
