Mavis S. Light, Kingsport, was born in Wise County, VA on May 18, 1926 and died March 5, 2013 in Kingsport, TN.
She was the daughter of the late C. Fred Snodgrass and Pearl Frazier Snodgrass. Mavis lived most of her life in Kingsport, TN. She worked in the dental field, in the orthodontic branch, for over 40 years. She was a dear mother and grandmother and was loved by all who knew her. Mavis especially loved flower gardening and enjoyed decorating her home.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Elaine A. Souther; a brother, C. Sidney Snodgrass; four sisters, Laura S. Grasham, Mary S. Little, Eula S. Conklin, and an infant sister, Velma Snodgrass.
Survivors include one son, Michael D. Light of Kingsport; two daughters, Shira L. Souther and husband John of Kingsport, and Marla L. Griesedieck and husband Joe of Menlo Park, CA; three grandchildren, Jeffrey A. Souther of Kingsport, Emily G. Simonson and husband James of Menlo Park, CA, and Marla P. Griesedieck of Menlo Park, CA; three great-grandchildren, Jackson P. Wright, Baker N. Wright, and Scarlett J. Simonson; two brothers, W. Albert Snodgrass and wife Betty of Marion, IL, and Carl R. Snodgrass and wife Louise of Wise, VA; and a sister, Doris Snodgrass of Kingsport.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Services will be held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Mitchell Whisnant officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
