Max Hill, 70, of Kingsport, died Sunday afternoon, March 18, 2012, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a courageous fight with melanoma. Born in Chattanooga, he was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1959. Max also graduated from U.T. at Chattanooga with a Master's Degree. He was the founder of Hill Sales Company, 1969-1994, in Chattanooga with offices in Kingsport and Johnson City. He had worked in the food brokerage business for over 43 years. Max was an active member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church. He was involved as a mentor for the Parables Sunday School Class, Stephen Ministry, youth retreats and mission projects. Max was an active outdoorsman, hunter, golfer, fisherman, tandum cyclist and tennis player.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Audrey Hill; nephew, Kenneth Kimbrell; and faithful hunting companion, "Annie."
Max is survived by his wife, Phyllis Green Hill of the home; children, Beth Hill Welch and Bill Welch of Signal Mountain, Chris Perry and Charity Perry of Chattanooga; and Amy Perry of Knoxville; grandchildren, Elle Welch, Gracie Perry, Glory Perry and Misty Simmons; brother-in-law, Bruce Green and wife, Lise of Houston, TX; sister, Charlene Kimbrell of Chattanooga; nieces, Deanna Huffman and Christye Kingston; nephews, Michael Green, David Green and Andrew Green; several great nieces and nephews; and faithful hunting companions, "Megan" and "Molly."
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, March 22nd, at 11:00 a.m. at First Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Mickey Rainwater and Rev. Charles Lippse officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
