Maxie G. Casteel of Kingsport passed away on January 28, 2009. She was born September 23, 1916, in Hawkins County to Nellie and Cale Gilliam. She was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R.D. "Don" Casteel; son James Casteel; sister Maime Clifton; brothers John Gilliam, Ed Gilliam, Sam Gilliam, and an infant brother, Junior Gilliam.
She is survived by granddaughters Cassandra Powers and husband Wayne of Weber City, and Monica Lane and husband Jerry of Kingsport; great-grandchildren Heather Harvey and husband Shane, Derek Lane, Daniel Jonas, Jerica Lane, Trey Lane, Santana Lane, and Tori Powers; great great-grandchildren Maison Harvey and Savannah Lane; sisters Esta Butry, Ruby Mabe, Lena Greer, Rachel Ryans, Gladys Smith, and Ada Wilson; and brother Guy Gilliam.
Visitation will be Friday, January 30, 2009, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home Chapel, downtown Kingsport, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m., with Rev. Jeff DeBoard officiating. Burial will be Saturday, January 31, at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Daniel Jonas, Derek Lane, Wayne Powers, Jerry Lane, Shane Harvey, and Trey Lane.
