Maxie Kathleen Slaughter Cox, 97, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2015, following a brief illness at Holston Valley Medical Center.

Daughter of the late John and Lenny Godsey Slaughter, she attended West Colonial Hills Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents Maxie was preceded in death by her husband, Luther M. Cox; daughter, Barbara Harless; and son-in-law, Jim Linkous.

Maxie is survived by her daughter, Sudie Linkous, of Kingsport; two sons, Thomas Cox and wife, Phyllis of Church Hill, Tracy Cox of Kingsport; five grandchildren, Keith Cox and wife Jacquelin, Greg Cox and wife, Cecelia, Brian Cox and wife, Melanie, Anthony Harless and wife, Valerie, Wendel Harless; six great-grandchildren, Grayson Cox, Hunter Cox, Logan Cox, Alyssa Barrett, Jackson Barrett, and Christy Harless, all of Kingsport; one sister, Nancy Tester, of Bristol; and son-in-law, Leonard Harless of Kingsport.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to a special daughter-in-law, Phyllis, Health South, Wexford House, and Holston Valley Medical Center, Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Colonial Hills Baptist Church, 1205 Kendrick Creek Rd., Kingsport, 37663.

The family will receive friends, Tuesday, July 14, 6-8:00pm, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport and other times at the home. Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, July 14, 8:00pm, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport with Pastor Wes Rankin officiating. Burial will be held, Wednesday, July 15, 11:00am at Double Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Grandsons.
