Maxie Owens Hess, 88, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 3, 2015. She was born in Vicey, VA, and had resided in Kingsport since 1957. She was a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church for 68 years, and she will always be remembered for her love of life, church and the joy she brought to others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleve and Eveline Owens; seven sisters, and two brothers.
Maxie is survived by her children, Ronnie Hess (Gail), John Hess (Mary), Ann Absher (Donnie), Gary Hess (Jane), and Ralph "Tony" Hess (Carolyn); grandchildren, Gina Herron, Sherry Wright, Tina Perry, Christy Maultbay, Tracy McPheron, Jamie Pearson, Kristy Sproles, Jon Moore, Jennifer Hess, Jeff Hess, and Nick Absher; twenty great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; brother, Ellis Owens; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the aids and nursing staff at Holston Manor.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, and from 11 to 12:00 p.m. on Friday at Bethany Old Regular Baptist Church. The service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the church with Elder Walter Rose, Elder Roger Coleman, and Elder Mark Justice officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
