Maxie Bernice Carter Mellons

Maxie Bernice Carter Mellons, 91, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord in the early morning of Monday, June 24, 2024. She was born and raised by her grandmother in Jasper, VA, later settling in Kingsport where she lived out the remainder of her life. Maxie was a Godly woman, active in church and singing in church. She was a hard worker and raised seven children while working a full-time job. Maxie loved to garden and read books and loved her family very much. 

 She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Mellons; and daughter, Freda Salyers.

 Maxie is survived by her children, Garry Lawson, Glenn Lawson, Bobby Lawson, Yvonne Morris, Teresa Williams, Ricky Carter, Dena McConnell, Paula Collins, and Marlene Dillard (Chuck); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, siblings, Fred Sams, Ronald Sams (Betty), Charles Sams (Joyce); and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. with Rev. Ryan Shaffer officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
