Maxwell E. Epps, 83, Church Hill, went to be with the Lord on March 1, 2016 at Wexford House in Kingsport, TN. He was born August 31, 1932 to the late William E and Mary Kate (Wilhelm) Epps. Max was a loving and devoted husband, uncle, brother, cousin and friend.
After serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, Max worked at the Kingsport Press followed by the AFG Glass plant until retiring from Holston Defense. He was also a 50 year member of The Kingsport Masonic Lodge #688 and the first president and founding member of the 1st Tennessee Regional Group of the Mustang Club of America with his
passion being restoration of Ford Mustangs.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Bernice (Laster) Epps along with a special aunt, Annabelle Bussell, who raised him from a young age.
Max is survived by special nieces, Colleen Frazier (Terry) and Sharon Jordan (Francis); special cousin, Lynn Wilhelm (Rhonda); sister-in-law, Jenny Washburn; brother-in-law, Eunice Laster; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 6, from 12:30 - 2:30 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, TN. Graveside services will follow immediately at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA with Rev. Gary Gerhardt officiating and Masonic Rites by Masonic Lodge #688.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
