Melba Still Gilliam, 81, of Kingsport, passed away on June 18, 2009, after an extended illness.
After graduating from Dobyns-Bennett High School, Melba began working full-time at Still Transfer Company, first with her father and mother, and later with her two brothers. She was devoted to her lifelong career in the worldwide moving and transport business and to the customers of the Kingsport community whom she served.
Melba was preceded in death by her parents, Rachel Marshall Still and Thomas S. Still. She is survived by her husband, Hubert Q. Gilliam; daughter Dona J. Gilliam; brothers Thomas F. Still Bud, and Eugene R. Gene Still and wife Mary Sue; nieces Amy Still and Vanessa Lawhon and husband Pres; and nephews Randy Still, Kent Still, Alan Still and wife Ann.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 20th at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the First Broad Street United Methodist Church, Kingsport, where Melba was a long-time church member. The Reverend Dr. John Wilson will be officiating at the ceremony.
A graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Memorial Park following the funeral.
