Melinda Wood, 77, Kingsport, passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2007.
Born in Jonesville, VA, she had resided in Kingsport most of her life. Melinda was owner and operator of a daycare that she had in her home. Over the last 40 years Melinda touched the lives of many with her God given gift to love and care for children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Callie Gibson; two brothers, Ralph Gibson and Cecil Gibson; and two sisters, Irene Cox and Ruth Daughtery.
Surviving are one daughter, Valerie Rowlett and husband Jeff, Jonesville, VA; two sons, Joel Wood, Jr. and wife Terri, Knoxville, David Wood and wife Nancy, Kingsport; six grandchildren, Tom Cole and wife, Karen, Matthew, Austin, Nicholas, Elijah, and Hannah Wood; sister-in-law, Ruth Gibson; niece, Donna Gibson; special friends, Julie Culbertson, Kelly Hall, and Cathy Golden.
The family deeply appreciates the loving care of Misty Puckett and all of the staff of Wellmont Hospice.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with David M. Peters officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Wellmont Hospice Program, P. O. Box 238, Kingsport, TN 37662.
