One of the most honest and true men to ever walk the face of this earth, Melvin A. Caldwell, 74, went to be held in the arms of the Lord on Friday, November 19, 2010.
Melvin was a dedicated outdoorsman, husband of 54 years, father of three, and a proud grandparent. He not only expected excellence of himself, but pointed others toward it with his priceless advice. Melvin was a member of First Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army. A graduate of Clemson University, he was employed with Eastman Kodak for 36 years retiring in 1993. He was also employed with Springs Industries.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents: G. Perry and Frances Caldwell.
Survivors include his loving wife Sylvia Dozier Caldwell; sons: Jerry Caldwell and wife, Teresa of St. Charles, VA., Gary Caldwell of Kingsport; daughter: Lorie Way and husband, Timothy of Kingsport; grandchildren: Daniel Way, Benjamin Way, Isaac Way, Taylor Caldwell and wife, Rachel, Parker Caldwell, Sarah Elizabeth Caldwell, Deana Schuler, Andrea Marie Caldwell; great granddaughter: Elizabeth Christian Way; his sister: Phyllis Grem and husband, W. Ellie of Rock Hill, SC; one niece, Joy Helvey and two nephews: Martin Grem and Darren Grem.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating. Graveside services will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Deana Schuler, Taylor Caldwell, Andrea Caldwell, Timothy Way, Parker Caldwell, Benjamin Way, Isaac Way, Joe Watson, and Daniel Way.
