Michael A. Copas, 45, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord suddenly on November 3, 2009. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and a very proud paw-paw who loved his mother dearly. A former radio operator for the U.S. Army, Michael was an avid UT fan and loved playing softball. He also enjoyed going to church. Michael was the type of man who would do anything for anyone and never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kermit Copas and special mother-in-law, Lucille May.
Michael is survived by his wife, Teresa Copas; step-daughters, Celena Jenkins and husband Josh and Tenida Dunn; grandson, Gabriel Jenkins; mother, Cleo Copas Smith; sisters, Teresa Crawford and husband Wayne and Lisa Shelton and husband Ralph; brothers, Donnie Copas and wife Shirley and Steve Copas and wife Karen; special aunt, Mary Fisher; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Gillam and Pastor Ken Thacker officiating.
Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 3/265.
