KINGSPORT – Mike DePollo, 74, of Kingsport, went to be with God and to join his loving wife in Heaven on Friday, June 28, 2024. He was born in Elkins, West Virginia on October 22, 1949.
Mike was a loving husband, father, and Granddad; his four grandchildren were his biggest source of pride and joy. He graduated Valedictorian at Mountaineer High School in Davis, West Virginia in 1967. He then attended West Virginia University and graduated with a BS degree in Industrial engineering in 1972. Mike was a member of the Alpha Pi Mu Engineering honorary society. He was enrolled in Army ROTC for 4 years at WVU and was a member of the Army/Air Force Scabbard and Blade honorary society.
Mike worked at Eastman Kodak and then Eastman Chemical Company for almost 40 years, retiring on January 1, 2011. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Tennessee and served as a past president of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers in Kingsport, TN. Mike served as an Assistant Scout Master with Troop 51 with the Boy Scouts of America, he was active with Toastmasters International, achieving the status of Distinguished Toastmaster, and was a charter member of the Sullivan West Volunteer Fire Department.
An active member of Saint Dominic Catholic Church, Mike served as a reader, sacristan, usher, catechist, and bus driver for the parish. He was a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, a member and Past Grand Knight of Council 6992. Mike was also a huge supporter of Saint Dominic Catholic School, where he consistently helped out in any way that was needed.
Mike enjoyed gardening and fishing, but the most rewarding time to him was when he was with his children, grandchildren, family, and friends. He will be remembered as a genuinely kind, loving, strong, hardworking, generous person with a huge heart of service, always taking care of others. Mike was an exceptional human being that made the world a better place with his presence.
Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah Aileen DePollo; parents, Ralph Lewis DePollo, Jr. and Ruth Ellen Hall DePollo Schumann; brothers, Leslie Schumann and Glenn I. Schumann; brother-in-law, Tony James; and step-father, Glenn H. Schumann.
He is survived by his daughter, Dana Bellino and husband, Dan; son, Michael DePollo, Jr. and wife, Vita; four grandchildren, Joseph Michael, Aidan, and Micah Bellino and Chloe DePollo; two brothers, Tim Schumann, and Mark DePollo and wife, Claudia; one sister, Loretta James; sisters-in-law, Elaine Schumann and Ren Schumann; numerous nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends and extended family.
Visitation will be at St. Dominic Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 from 12:00pm-2:00pm, followed by a funeral Mass at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Dominic Catholic School, 1474 East Center Street, Kingsport, TN 37664, Niswonger Children’s Hospital, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
