Michael T. Mooneyham, 57, of Kingsport, died Thursday afternoon, May 16, 2019, at his home after an extended illness. Born in Kingsport, Mike was a 1980 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and attended ETSU. A devoted Christian, he had been a member of Oakwood Forest Christian Church and was a current member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mike had fought a fight with diabetes since he was 14 months old and was the recipient of four kidney transplants, having been involved in the 1st ever three way transplant at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 2004. He was active as a camper, staff member and volunteer for many years at the Tennessee Camp for Diabetic Children in Soddy Daisy, TN. Mike was a role model for many people. His faith and positive attitude was an inspiration.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bob R. Mooneyham; sister, Debra Mooneyham; and step-brother, Tom Mahoney and wife Beth.
Michael is survived by his mother and stepfather, Greta and John Mahoney, of the home; aunts, Paulette Clayman of Houston, TX; cousins, Linda Shoemaker and Charlotte Ray, both of Kingsport, and Katherine Burkey of Ohio; three stepsisters, Cathy Mahoney of Oakland, CA, Jane Mahoney of Oregon, WI, and Mary Hall and husband Maurice of Sacramento, CA; one stepbrother, Don Mahoney and wife Mojgan of Morgan, CA; and nieces and nephews, Carlos Herrera, Claudio Herrera, Pablo Herrera, Roshan Mahoney, Kian Mahoney, Andy Brownfield, Marialisa Brownfield, Dale Hall, and Daniel Hall.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2019, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. with Ed Clevinger, Minister and Larry Munsey, Minister officiating.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tennessee Camp For Diabetic Children, 2622 Lee Pike, Soddy-Daisy, TN, 37379.
