Michael "Mike" A. Piazza of Kingsport died Sunday June 5, 2011 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport. Mike was born April 25, 1930 in Brighton, AL, and had resided in Kingsport since 1956. He was a graduate of Auburn University where he received a Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering and was a member of the Pi Mu Epsilon mathematical honor society, the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi, the engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi, and Phi Lambda Upsilona"the national chemistry honor society. He was a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church.
He retired from Eastman in 1994 after 38 years of service, having served as Vice-President where he was responsible for Engineering and Construction, Plant Maintenance, Power and Services divisions as well as the Chemicals from Coal Expansion projects. He was an avid Auburn football fan and enjoyed playing all sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Josephine Piazza.
Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Louise Piazza; a daughter, Cathy Liley and husband Brian of Fall Branch; sons Andy Piazza of Atlanta, GA, and Matthew Piazza of Herndon, VA; a sister, Lee Rutledge and husband Ken of Pensacola, FL; and three brothers, J.C. Piazza & Don Piazza, both of Auburn, AL, and Mark Piazza and wife, Lorrie, of Montgomery, AL; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a Memorial Mass at 1 pm Tuesday June 7, 2011 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Kingsport with Father Mike Nolan officiating. The family will receive friends following the Memorial Mass at the church.
