Mildred Johnson Barker, 90, died Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Belcourt Terrace in Nashville, TN.
She was born May 11, 1918 in Max Meadows, VA the daughter of the late Hallie and Gus Johnston. Mildred attended high school in Max Meadows, VA and nursing school in Roanoke, VA. After her marriage to Reginald Kincer, she moved to Kingsport where she was very active in social and community organizations.
After the death of Reginald Kincer in 1972, Mildred married Bob Barker and had a very active life, even taking up golf and tennis. Bob Barker died in 1996.
In August 2005 Mildred moved to Nashville to be with her son and daughter-in-law. Many thanks to the staff of Belcourt Terrace for their care as her health declined. Mildred's favorite thing to do was to receive letters and packages from her family and friends and talking to everyone on the phone.
Mildred was a longtime member of Waverly Road Presbyterian Church and looked forward to reading the church bulletin even after moving to Nashville.
She is survived by her son, Reginald O. Kincer Jr. and his wife Anne Gates Kincer; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Baumgartner and Margaret Suthers; and her nieces and nephews, Jeffery Baumgartner, Kim and Kirk Suthers, Cindy Kincer, and Jacki Kincer.
Calling hours will be 2-3:00 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. Daniel S. Clark officiating.
Memorials may be made to the organization of one's choice.
