Mildred Aleen Powell Steadman

Mildred Aleen Powell Steadman, 92, Kingsport, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017, at her home surrounded by family. Born on June 22, 1925 in Fries, VA, she moved to Kingsport at the age of 2. Her parents were the late Charles Pickney and Pearl Alice Parks Powell. Her last goal was to be the oldest living member of her family. She achieved this goal on August 3, 2017 and was so proud of that accomplishment. She had been a member of First Baptist Church since the 1950's.

In addition to her parents Aleen was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Ralph B. Steadman; 6 sisters, Lillie Mae Echols, Pauline Peppers, Hazel Hovis, Bernice Sadler, Carrie Jones and Clinis Powell; and 2 brothers, Maurice Powell and Charles Powell.

Aleen is survived by her 3 children, Susan Steadman Sparks and husband, John of Nashville, TN, Mary Steadman Saul and husband, Charlie of Roswell, GA, and Steve "Corkie" Steadman and wife, Mary of Kingsport; 5 grandchildren, Scott Sparks and wife, Kristin, Weston Sparks, Brian Saul, Katherine Saul Hubbard and husband, John, and Christopher Ralph Steadman; 5 great-grandchildren, Maggie Saul, Abbie Saul, Jack Hubbard, Charlie Hubbard, and Revere Steadman Sparks; many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Steadman.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Donations may be made in her memory to Meals on Wheels of Kingsport, P.O. Box 3346, Kingsport, TN 37664. It is a wonderful organization which helps many and was a blessing in the last few months of her life. The family would like to thank all the volunteers who were so kind.
