Mildred Dougherty passed away Saturday, February 24, 2007 after an extended illness with her family by her side.
Born in Dante, VA, Mildred lived the majority of her life in Kingsport. In her earlier years, she worked with her late husband at Dougherty?s Radio & TV and then later was a homemaker. Mildred was a member of Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Harold T. Dougherty; her parents, GL & Mary Steffey; her infant son, Robert H. Dougherty; sister, Shirley Lane; and brother, Stanton Steffey.
She is survived by her two daughters, Becky Laws and husband Gary of Johnson City and Kay Crump of Nashville; her grandchildren, Joe Yates, Rhonda Brown, Leslea Colquitt, and Mary Wilhelm; great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Joe, and Holden Yates, and Savannah and Alexis Colquitt. She is also survived by two sisters, Hattie Leach and husband Joe, Jean Bright and husband Alvie; two brothers, Bob Steffey and wife Virginia, Vernon ?Rat? Steffey and wife Winonna ?Winnie?; sister-in-law Jenni Steffey; and several nieces and nephews.
A special thank you is extended to niece, Pam Gentry and special friend, Paula McMillan and care givers of Wellmont Hospice who provided loving care and support during Mildred?s illness.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park with The Rev. Daniel S. Clark officiating. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Joe Yates, Stan Steffey, David Leach, Mike Leach, John Gentry and Matthew Gentry.
In lieu of flowers it is requested those wishing to remember Mildred contribute to the Savannah Colquitt Medical Fund. Savannah is Mildred?s great-granddaughter who is battling brain cancer.
