Mildred Hawkins Light, 89, of Kingsport, died July 2, 2009, following a brief illness.
She was born in Boone's Creek and attended Boone's Creek High School. She worked at Tennessee Eastman Company for several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Hawkins and Sudie Hawkins Chatman, her step-father, Joe Chatman, three brothers, Raymond Hawkins, Jim Hawkins, and Fred Hawkins; a sister, Mable Pardue; and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by nieces and nephews and many special friends.
The family will receive friends anytime at the home of John and Judith Barrett, Nancy Honaker, or Lynda Lovin, or on Sunday from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Burial will follow at Boone's Creek Christian Church Cemetery, with Pastor Chad Roberts and Leroy Hawkins officiating.
Pallbearers will be Leroy Hawkins, Scott Armstrong, Travis Armstrong, Ray Hawkins, Jeff Lovin, and Paul Hobbs. Honorary pallbearers are Grover Everheart, Andy Armstrong, and Walter Hawkins.
Instead of food donations, the family requests that memorial gifts be sent to the Friends of the Sullivan Gardens Library, 104 Bluegrass Drive, Kingsport, TN 37660.
