Minnie Bell Bishop Compton

Minnie B. Compton, 99, Kingsport went to be with the Lord Saturday, February 23, 2008.

She was born in Scott County, VA where she lived until moving to Kingsport. Minnie loved to fish with her grandsons and crochet.

Mrs. Compton was a member of Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rome Compton; one daughter, Juanita Ward; six sons, Clyde, Norman, Harvey, Jerry, J. Fred, and Dewey Edward; parents, Robert and Dora Bishop; several sisters and brothers; and six stepchildren.

Surviving are five daughters, Lois Dunn, Kingsport, Louise Blankenbeckler, Kingsport, Ina Goforth and husband Bobby, Blountville, Janice Hicks and husband Harold, Blountville, and Martha Davis, Kingsport; one son, Billy Compton, Kingsport; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; one half-sister, Betty Ball, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Services will follow at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Roger Dykes officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
