Morella Jones Cummins, 83, died Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Wexford House. She was born in Clinchport, Virginia on September 30, 1928, and was the daughter of the late Felix A. and Bessie Mae Jones. Morella graduated from LMU, where she met her husband. They have been blessed with a marriage of 62 years. Morella enjoyed teaching school in Scott County, at Clinchport and Rye Cove, Virginia. After moving to Colonial Heights, Tennessee in 1956, she taught in Sullivan County at Miller Perry Elementary and Colonial Heights Middle Schools. She was fortunate to know so many wonderful students and retired in 1988. She was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Edgar and Darwin Jones and her sister, Anabel Ray of Church Hill, Tennessee.
Her survivors include her husband, Kenneth J. Cummins of the home; her daughter, Dr. Catherine Lee Cummins; two grandchildren, Will and Rosalind Remsen of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; several nieces and nephews; and a very special niece, Anita Griggs and husband, Jim.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 2:00 pm with Dr. Greg Burton officiating. The family will receive friends after the service. Interment will be in Holston View Cemetery and at Morella's request, there will be no formal burial service.
The family would like to thank all of her care-givers at the Indian Path Medical Center, Wexford House and Amedisys Hospce for the compassionate care she received during her final days.
