Morton H. "Mitch" Mitchell, 85, of Kingsport, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011, at his residence.
Mr. Mitchell was born in Sullivan County, where he had lived all of his life. He served as a tail-gunner in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He retired from Tennessee Eastman Company after more than 40 years of service. Mr. Mitchell volunteered as a fireman and with the Kingsport Lifesaving Crew. He also worked with Carter's Chapel Funeral Home, Carter's Corner Flower Shop, and Holston Floral.
Morton was a member of Kingsport Masonic Lodge F&AM #688. He was also a member of the Jericho Shriners, having taken many children over the years to the Shriners Hospital in Greenville, SC.
He is now reunited with the love of his life, Inez Mitchell, who passed away in February of this year. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Miles Mitchella"who died in service to his country during WWII.
Survivors include his sister, Mable Bishop, of Greensboro, NC, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday March 15, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Masonic Rites will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home; funeral services will follow with Pastor J.W. Depew officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park, with military honors by American Legion Posts #3/265.
Pallbearers will be John Wright, Cody Wright, Dustin Wright, and Brittany Wright.
